The Name
"Umbra" refers to the darkest part of a shadow. Just as a shadow is always with you but never intrusive, Umbrafiles is always there for your files — present when you need it, invisible when you don't.

Umbrafiles is provided as a static, client-side web application. No account creation, registration, or personal information is required to use this Service.

Umbrafiles is a personal file archiving tool that operates entirely within your web browser. All file storage, retrieval, and management occurs locally on your device using your browser's IndexedDB API. We do not maintain servers that store, process, or transmit your files.
The Service allows you to:
- Upload files to your local browser storage
- View, search, and organize your stored files
- Download and retrieve your files at any time
- Delete files from your local storage
- Export all stored files as a batch
- Organize files into folders and tags
3. Data Ownership and Privacy
All files you upload to Umbrafiles remain 100% your property. We claim no rights, ownership, or interest in any files you store.
Since all data is stored locally in your browser:
- We never receive, access, or store your files
- We never transmit your files to any server
- We never collect, analyze, or sell any personal data
- We never use cookies for tracking or advertising
- We never employ analytics or third-party scripts
4. Acceptable Use
While we do not monitor your files (as we cannot access them), you agree not to use Umbrafiles to store:
- Illegal content or material that violates applicable laws
- Malware, viruses, or other harmful code
- Content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
- Any content that could harm other users or the Service
5. Data Loss and Limitations
Because Umbrafiles stores data exclusively in your browser:
- Clearing your browser data will permanently delete your files
- Files stored in one browser are not accessible from another
- Browser storage quotas may limit the amount of data you can store
- We are not responsible for any data loss resulting from browser clearing, cache deletion, or storage quota limits
We strongly recommend regularly exporting and backing up your files using the Export All feature.
6. No Warranty
Umbrafiles is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Umbrafiles and its creators disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

3. Information Stored Locally
Umbrafiles uses your browser's built-in storage technologies:
- IndexedDB: Your uploaded files are stored here. This is your browser's local database. No data leaves your device.
- localStorage: We store your theme preference (dark/light) and language preference here. No personal data is stored.
- Cookies: Umbrafiles does not set any cookies. If your browser stores any cookies, they are not set by Umbrafiles.
4. Your Files
Your files are stored exclusively on your device. We want to be absolutely clear about this:
- Your files never leave your browser
- No file metadata is transmitted anywhere
- No file content is processed by any server
- You have complete control — view, download, or delete at any time
If you clear your browser's site data or storage, your files will be permanently deleted. We recommend using the Export All feature to maintain backups.
5. Security
While we take the following measures seriously:
- The Service is a static website with no server-side code to exploit
- All data resides in your browser's IndexedDB, which is sandboxed by your browser
- No network requests are made for data transmission
We acknowledge that no system is 100% secure. If you're concerned about security, consider the nature of browser-based storage and ensure your device itself is secure.
6. Third-Party Services
Umbrafiles does not integrate with any third-party services that could access your data. The only external resource we load is the Inter and JetBrains Mono fonts from Google Fonts, which is a standard web font delivery service. Loading these fonts does not constitute data collection by Umbrafiles.
7. Children's Privacy
Umbrafiles is available to users of all ages. However, we encourage parents and guardians to guide younger users in understanding local data storage and the importance of digital backups.
8. Changes to This Policy
